An Important Announcement

A Letter from Pastor Search Team

Dear Church Family,

In December 2019, as your elected eight member search team, we began the search for God's next chosen shepherd for FBCD. Our goal...To seek God before seeking the man. We had no idea the overwhelming  magnitude of the task that would lay on our hearts, and we also had no idea that we'd embarked on a journey of unchartered territory.

In the aftermath of a devastating, widespread tornado that ripped through the mid-state, we immediately found ourselves surrounded by a silent enemy that would soon be labeled a "global pandemic." Our opportunity to gather, pray, view and discuss came to a hault...but not God's process.

As individuals on a collective team, we continued to work, pray, openly discuss, discern and interview references by phone. We met and processed in ways unbeknownst to any search committee in the past! Besides long days and late nights of focus and research, we were also dealing with several difficult personal and family issues. Needless to say, we had many obstacles thrown our way, Yet, despite our struggles and inability to officially "meet", we were committed to carrying out the mission we accepted by our beloved church family.

It is through much prayer and great joy that we unanimously believe that God has shown us His chosen shepherd and prepared him in blessed ways beyond our imaginations. Jeffrey Dean Smith lives and breathes a contagious love for Jesus. Many of you already know this because he and his family reside in Donelson. He has already developed relationships within the Donelson community; he's led youth and parenting courses right here within our church. He's served the youth and families at DCA, and he lives among us with a passionate heart for all people, but especially for the lost people of Donelson and Hermitage.

For those of you who don't already know him, we hope that you will join us in prayer as we enthusiastically introduce you to a man who is known by so many people, for so many things. His love for Jesus, his family and all people is unmistakably a model of a servant's heart, biblical marriage and parenting. His love for the word is an insatiable appetite for God's truth, that feeds his preaching, teaching, writing curriculum and his decades of ministering to people. Jeff not only meets the requirements of our church Constitution and Bylaws, but as our extensive list was rendered down to three godly men to pray over...Jeff stood out as we reviewed our dream session list. We were astounded as we reviewed the dream list created by 100+ members of our church family. Each one of the categories that was voted as an important priority to our church was a strong character trait or gift that defines Jeff.

Therefore, it is with great joy and enthusiasm that we present our final, chosen and number one candidate to fill the position of Lead Pastor at FBCD, Jeffrey Dean Smith.

Sincerely,

FBCD Pastor Search Committee

A Letter from Jeffrey Dean Smith

April 26, 2020

Dear First Baptist Family,

In His final words, before ascending to heaven recorded in Matthew 28, Jesus commanded his followers to

“Go.” I have made this command my life mission for the past 27 years, as I have preached and served the mission field across America and into five other countries proclaiming the good news: “Jesus saves!”

As a preacher, counselor, and writer, I have had the privilege of preaching the gospel message to more than 4 million people, as well as creating and growing a full range of evangelistic and discipleship programs that serve the whole family. I have ministered with and to churches, ministries, non-profits, and businesses throughout our nation – preaching, mentoring, teaching, motivating, and encouraging people to pursue a committed relationship with Jesus Christ.

After two and a half decades of mission-field ministry across our nation and world, my family and I are following the leading of the Holy Spirit to transition our outreach to full time local ministry, and we are so excited. A critical asset in local ministry is to immerse oneself into the local community of which I am already a part. I have lived in

Donelson for 22 years (and the Hermitage area prior) and have

strong relationships with churches, schools, businesses, and people

throughout this community.

I am a published author of books and curriculum (published by Penguin Random House Publishing, Lifeway,

Back To The Bible, and Randall House), as well as various magazines, journals, newspapers, periodicals, blogs, and websites. As your pastor, I will utilize my writing skills to develop a strategy for implementing my teachings from the pulpit into deeper life-application conversations and scriptural study in Sunday School, small groups, discipleship, and more.

Additionally, during my time in ministry, I have served as campus pastor of Donelson Christian Academy where I provided pastoral care to students, staff, and families.  I led and organized all chapels and special events.  During my tenure, we created and grew a ministry to local pastors - a network to strengthen support and involvement cross-denominationally in the community.

My life mission is to equip people with the Word of God so they may know and grow in Jesus Christ through discipleship, worship, missions, and service. My wife, Amy, our two daughters, Bailey and Brynnan, and I are beyond excited to get to know you and to begin building life-long relationships with you as we work together to share the saving message “Jesus saves!”

For the Kingdom,

Jeffrey Dean Smith
