Muted Worshipers
02/15/2008

What would happen if God were to judge our hearts in worship in the immediate and visual way that he did Zechariah in the book of Luke, chapter one. Zechariah entered into the very presence of God. He was to light the incense around the alter of sacrifice. He is met there by the arch angel Gabriel. But, instead of a believing heart, Zechariah doubts the answer to his long-term, heart-felt prayer. In the immediacy of the moment Zechariah is judge for his unbelief by walking out of the temple muted.

How many of us would walk out of worship on any given Sunday unable to speak? We stumble into worship with tired hearts and minds from our late Saturday night activities. Or, we sit distracted in the midst of song, prayer and preaching by our post worship agendas. If God were to judge our hearts in the immediacy of the moment, how many of us would be muted worshippers?
